Why use standardized metricators?

• Maintenance managers can rely on a single set of predefined indicators supported by a glossary of terms and definitions

• When a company wants to construct a set of company indicators or scorecard, the development process based on predefined indicators will be simplified

GloMe Target group

The objective of the harmonisation document is to offer the global maintenance community a set of predefined indicators to be used by companies with a need to measure maintenance and reliability performance on a global basis. The indicators can be used by all organisations with a need to measure, track, report and compare maintenance and reliability performance.

The further objective for the document is to give a scale to measure maintenance or reliability performance. Best-in-Class values for the metricators can be find in Section 6 of GloMe. Best-in-Class values help organisations to identify improvement gaps in maintenance and availability performance.

To enhance the understanding of the various maintenance and reliability terms the GloMe offers a chapter with a discussion on the – sometimes – many confusing definitions. Also, the GloMe has the answer to the question expressed by several maintenance professional on which indicators to be applied to my maintenance processes. GloMe contains a chapter with the suggested use of the indicators to the generic maintenance processes such as planning and scheduling and spare part management.

The harmonised indicators are supported by a set of guidelines and example calculations. This provides maintenance professionals with an easy-to-use guide for understanding the indicators, and of the components which are included or excluded in the calculation of each indicator. The target group for the harmonised indicators document is comprised of: maintenance managers, asset managers, plant managers, operations managers, reliability engineers, technical managers, general managers or any other personnel who are involved with benchmarking, or maintenance and reliability performance measurement. 

The metricators can be used to meet the requirements of ISO 55000 for asset management systems. ISO 55001, section 9.1 calls for monitoring and measurement to ensure valid results, and ISO 55002, section 9.1.1.3 articulates that a “set of performance indicators” be developed to measure asset management activities and outcomes.
